Modern rustic styling for a connected family home
This project focused on rethinking the downstairs layout to create a more open, social, and family-friendly living space - all while keeping true to a modern rustic style. The home already had great bones and lovely natural light, it just needed a little spatial rethinking and styling magic to really shine.

Creating Flow Between Living Spaces
We started by addressing a key barrier: those big black industrial doors. While stylish, they chopped up the space and posed a safety risk for their baby. So I suggested removing them to open up the layout and enhance flow.
Instead, we introduced a sliding barn door that could close off the other space when needed, without cluttering the room.
We also moved the TV into the other lounge area to create a more rounded, sociable seating space. This also freed up the wall for statement art or a mirror to visually expand the room.
Introducing “The Snug”
That quiet, under-utilised corner? We transformed it into a snug—a cosy little haven perfect for winding down.
We moved the TV into this room to encourage more use, softened the space with textured rugs and linen-blend curtains, and even recommended a hinge change on the door to allow room for extra seating like a pouffe or armchair.
To boost both comfort and safety, we repositioned the radiator and suggested a stylish column radiator as a replacement.
Upgrading the Dining Area
The kitchen-dining area had so much potential, and we wanted to elevate it while keeping it practical for daily use.
We explored rustic wood tables with industrial legs to tie into the kitchen’s existing finishes, with both fixed and extendable options to suit their entertaining needs. We paired these with more compact, cushioned dining chairs, ensuring style and comfort without overwhelming the space.
