This tall wooden stand began life in the early-mid 20th century as a cigarette stand - a familiar sight beside an armchair or fireplace, designed to keep cigarettes, matches and ash neatly to hand during an evening at home.
Turned from solid wood, its proportions are both practical and sculptural. The shallow dish at the top would originally have held an ashtray; today, it lends itself naturally to candlelight and works beautifully styled with a single pillar candle, casting a soft, ambient glow.
The small side compartment, once used for matches or cigarettes, remains intact and offers a gentle reminder of the piece’s former life. The weighted circular base gives it stability and presence, allowing it to stand comfortably beside a hearth, in a corner, or as an atmospheric alternative to a traditional candlestick.
A characterful piece of domestic history, thoughtfully reimagined for modern interiors.
