Longhurst Kitchen
Hither Green SE13
A dark, dated kitchen was transformed into a warm, practical space with a modern rustic feel - designed to work hard for everyday family life while feeling calm and considered.
Before
The new scheme pairs deep green cabinetry with aged brass hardware, soft zellige-style tiles and pale stone flooring. We kept the original chimney breast as an important feature of the room, but covered the existing brickwork with brick slips to create a more authentically aged finish without the cost of rebuilding it. It now brings the warmth and texture the kitchen needed, while the cream range cooker, open timber shelving and woven details keep the look relaxed rather than overly polished.
After
The layout was also reworked by removing a toilet and a dark stable door at the end of the kitchen. In their place, a breakfast bar creates a more sociable spot for family life, while large Crittall-style doors now open straight onto the garden. They bring a huge amount of natural light into the space and make the kitchen feel far more connected to the outdoors, particularly through the summer months.
A large Belfast sink, generous worktops and improved storage make the layout more functional, with the styling bringing personality into the finished space through natural materials, useful pieces and a few carefully chosen vintage-inspired touches. The result is a kitchen that feels brighter, more cohesive and much more inviting to spend time in.
