Before:

Defining each space

The open-plan layout already worked well structurally, so the focus shifted to improving how each area was experienced. By introducing clearer zoning through furniture placement, rugs and lighting, the kitchen, dining area and snug each develop their own identity while remaining visually connected. This creates a home that feels both practical for everyday family life and inviting for entertaining.

Improving flow

Small layout changes can make a significant difference. Rotating the dining table to align with the kitchen island strengthens the connection between the two spaces while naturally defining the dining area. Adding a simple jute rug further reinforces the zoning, bringing warmth and texture without compromising the open feel of the room.

Creating a cosy snug

The seating area around the log burner was reimagined as a dedicated snug - a quieter, more intimate space designed for reading, relaxing and gathering. Recommendations included bespoke built-in shelving, integrated log storage and a lighter seating arrangement, creating a layered focal point that celebrates both comfort and practicality.

A palette with warmth and personality

Rather than introducing an entirely new colour scheme, this project built upon the client's existing palette to create something more cohesive and intentional. Warm neutrals provide a timeless backdrop, while inky navy adds depth and grounding. Carefully placed mustard yellow and tomato red accents bring warmth and personality, creating a space that feels relaxed, lived-in and full of character.

“Charlotte very quickly and skilfully understood the brief, and suggested some creative ideas that we had not considered before!”
